Gender’s a touchy, stabilizing experience, and that can cause us all a lot of grief, so it’s important we do our best to question, criticize and destabilize all that we are told is normal in terms of being man, woman, whatever.
Now, Judith Butler (if she ever came across this) would probably have a bone to pick with me about borrowing her famous title. But consider it an homage Ms. Butler, please. I do it for the greater good. I’m no expert, but I’ve been around the theoretical block, so I’ve some capacity when questioning popular gender culture. I can say with confidence I’m rather savvy when it comes to porn theory, having spent a good time academically considering just what the hell the stuff is.
This ain’t no crusade. I only like to make people think. My ideas might be wonky and from the perspective of male hetero ‘normalcy’, but that’s where I welcome whatever dear readers to have it out with me. Otherwise I can make no apologies and we cannot navigate the landscape of gender civilly and come to some final, hopefully positive, conclusion.
It’s a long road ahead, and we’ll walk it together. With equality on the horizon, it only makes sense there’s so much trouble.
